ABU DHABI,Jan. 6 (WAM) - The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Cabinet has condemned the current Israeli aggression on Gaza.
In a statement issued after its meeting yesterday, chaired by Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the cabinet affirmed the country's policy in favour of the peace endeavours in the Middle East, as well as its firm support to the Palestinian people's rights in setting up their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
It said the Israeli aggression "constituted an unequivocal violation of the international laws that protect civilians and safeguard their rights during war times." The Cabinet also expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people and sympathy with families of the victims of the Israeli attacks which killed hundreds of innocent children, women and old people in Gaza.
The Cabinet voiced support for the Arab and international efforts aimed at reaching a ceasefire in Gaza and at providing the right climate for boosting the Middle East peace process and for reaching a just and comprehensive peace that brings about security and stability for the region in general and for the Palestinian people in particular.
It also expressed backing for the Foreign Ministry's efforts, led by Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to contribute, through the Arab League, in attempts to enhance peace and to stop aggression on Gaza. (WAM) (END/2009)
